Backup your digital files whether business or personal

Losing digital data nowadays can end up being a nightmare. Our lives are part of digital content, as we store documents, photos, videos, and a variety of other useful datasets. Therefore, always make sure that a second copy is made on any other media you might choose. The type of backup is less important than having that second copy available. Always backup your files to prevent data loss in case of drive failure. It is critical to know that files can get corrupted, and hardware can fail no matter how new or reliable a device is.

What is a backup? According to Seagate the primary goal of a backup is to avoid data loss. This means having important data in a second physical location. You can use an external solid-state drive (SSD), an external hard drive disk (HDD), or other storage devices such as a microSD or a USB drive. It is not recommended to use CDs or DVDs because they have very limited storage space. Also, you can use a local NAS or a Cloud Backup.

Backups today are inexpensive and very easy to use daily. It is even possible to completely automate the process. Developing a backup strategy keeps your data safe. For instance, Seagate suggests the following commonly mentioned strategy called the 3-2-1 Backup, which states:

1. Three copies of the data including the original.

2. Different types of media.

3. Copy kept off-site or in a remote location.

Remember that after creating a copy of data, if you delete the original data, then there is no longer a backup of that data, only a single copy again. Thus, it is very important to keep updated all your digital content and do this almost daily.
